Typhoon Ondoy's Wrath

Hitting a densely populated segment of the country; both rural (like Zambales) and urban/suburban areas like Metro Manila and Rizal province, tropical storm "Ondoy" came shiftly and caused massive flooding.

So far the floods killed more than a hundred people and displaced hundreds of thousands of families and affecting millions.

This is probably one of the worst flooding that has happened in the past 40 years in these parts of the country.

As this is again not the normal track typhoons usually go through in the Philippines, it caught disaster management managers off guard; with some communities where many houses are now flooded to the roof do not even have rubber boats in their arsenal of disaster management tools and equipment.

Partido Kalikasan calls on Filipinos here and abroad and friends in the international community; including fellow Greens who are in the position to help to please donate in-kind, in cash of volunteer now to ongoing rescue and relief operations; particularly in the worst hit areas of Botolan, Zambales; in Tanay and San Mateo Rizal and Marikina City in Metro Manila.

The lives lost and affected and the properties destroyed of this tragedy should not be for nothing. This must now open the eyes of everyone; especially the affected communities that serious adaptation measures against the ill effects of climate change MUST BE PUT IN PLACE NOW.

After securing your own family, those who have the means and opportunities are asked to volunteer in the various ongoing efforts at rescue and relief.
