Months ago I was trekking (yet again) the streets of Recto. I was there to claim my renewed license ( o yeah 3 years na akong nurse). It hadn’t changed much except for the ongoing tile/brick (like the ones at baywalk) application to the side walk. It’s an interesting walk to tell you frankly. I haven’t taken picture that much, am very much aware of the opportunistic lurkers that hounds these streets.

First off, PRC. It hadn’t changed much, am glad I went there during “off-peak season.” Only few
people were there and I love it! Transactions are fast and stayed for a couple of minutes only.
I smelled school spirit when I saw FEU and swarms of students hanging around their extended playground.
While walking further, a stall selling chocolate hearts with statements (e.g. I love you, pangit mo, miss you, etc.) It sells for 10 pesos each. A very good Valentine’s day giveaway. They we're accepting orders.
When I was in college, I get my CD Burning services at Burn boy’s. He’s a young businessman, chinito, kinda cute guy who runs the shop. You’ll recognize the place by seeing a speaker blatantly displayed on the sidewalk and with loud music. You get to choose your songs from their logbook or have your own list of songs. And you could get it while you wait. You could choose the disc, casing and name tag. It costs 50 php.Well sad to burnboy’s store has vaporized.
The whole street was a wasteland of sorts. Sidewalk vendors selling foods, hair trinkets, accessories, load, food etc. etc. I wasn’t able to pass-by the 2nd hand book section. A lot of stores are still selling cheap and quality school materials. Stalls that sells uniforms, “doctoring” services (certs, diplomas, license), invitations, souvenirs, photocopy, ring/book binding so on and so forth. And the offer the lowest price you could imagine. Tip: the scariest looking place near Isetann has the cheapest price offerings for invitation printing.
As I cross Leagarda St. I saw some camera crew doing shots. Jeffrey Hidalgo was doing some music video (wild guess). Then a renovated Mendiola Bridge and a clean looking water blurred my vision (am I seeing things? I asked myself).
And then Mendiola...
Where school spirit has a stronger scent.
San Beda
The only thing that bothered me is the school uniform that the Bedans are wearing. Its colors resembles much like Hogwarts. I think Bedans are better off without the uniform. Because it gives them the sense of machismo and charm that's uncomparable with other college boys. That's what I think.
As for CEU, Holy spirit and La CO…(cricket sounds please)
Then at last I was able to comeback to St. Jude’s Catholic Church. I frequent the place when were reviewing for the board exam. Now I pat myself at the back kasi nakabalik ako. After saying my prayers I went out para magtirik ng kandila. I’ve only noticed then that there are lots of Chinese students from the parochial school. Also there’s only a 2 vendors selling candles and religious stuff. But what I noticed more is the non presence of bunched up colored candles. Only white and brown. I asked the vendor how come. It’s because 3 years ago may nagreklamo na studyante hindi daw natupad ang hiniling niya nung nagsindi siya ng kandila. Wow ang galing!Iniasa sa kandila ang kapalaran niya! There’s still colored candles pero yun e kung gusto na lang devotee.
I remember when I lit up candles I want to light lots of love candles. Natakot lang ako kasi baka ibigay sa akin ni God yung love life pero baka di ako makapasa ng board. Well, answered prayers naman lahat e. ;)
After giving thanks and lighting up my candles. Its time to go home.
Its like a reunion of sorts. I went back somewhere familiar that will always be a part of me.
