Typhoon Ondoy's Wrath

got this from my e-mail...

From www.partidokalikasan.org

Hitting a densely populated segment of the country; both rural (like Zambales) and urban/suburban areas like Metro Manila and Rizal province, tropical storm "Ondoy" came shiftly and caused massive flooding.

So far the floods killed more than a hundred people and displaced hundreds of thousands of families and affecting millions.

This is probably one of the worst flooding that has happened in the past 40 years in these parts of the country.

As this is again not the normal track typhoons usually go through in the Philippines, it caught disaster management managers off guard; with some communities where many houses are now flooded to the roof do not even have rubber boats in their arsenal of disaster management tools and equipment.

Partido Kalikasan calls on Filipinos here and abroad and friends in the international community; including fellow Greens who are in the position to help to please donate in-kind, in cash of volunteer now to ongoing rescue and relief operations; particularly in the worst hit areas of Botolan, Zambales; in Tanay and San Mateo Rizal and Marikina City in Metro Manila.

The lives lost and affected and the properties destroyed of this tragedy should not be for nothing. This must now open the eyes of everyone; especially the affected communities that serious adaptation measures against the ill effects of climate change MUST BE PUT IN PLACE NOW.

After securing your own family, those who have the means and opportunities are asked to volunteer in the various ongoing efforts at rescue and relief.

For PK members and supporters, PKI can accept donations. If you can, please send cash donations to:

trash compliant

trash cans in changi airport terminal 2
i just hope our trash can at home would look like that. cool :)

I'm proud to say that in our home we are compliant in segregating trash.

We've started it in the dorm then brought it at home. I've set up a trashcan for the biodegradable and non-biodegradable. As for the plastics (e.g. bottles, cups) Mom is giving it to a parish church to help in raising funds and recycling.

Though I still have to "scold" my dad for non-compliance lol.

Next goal to de-clutter the house from unused gadgets and sell/giveaway some clothes.

Tree top Adventure part 2

Then we have the tree top drop.

Its a spider drop ala mission impossible of Tom Cruise. I thought I was such a smart-ass to handle this. I was wrong! By the time its my turn I was shaking! But I have to go through this. During the drop, I have the every urge to back up my peripheral vision is dimming and all I can see is the spot of my demise. But since its not a scene from a old Tagalog movie,  the harness saved the day lol. I have a video that goes with this. Super funny.

Jungle Trekking

After a little rest, we went off to Jungle Survival Class and Trekking. Trekking is pretty tiring. Good thing I wore my good ol' Chucks and Linen pants. Mud is splattered all over it and I seriously considered on wearing shorts.

Jungle Survival Demo courtesy of Kuya Dudz

He taught us how to use a green bamboo on making our kitchen utensils. At first, I was pretty confused with the Filipino and American glass.

The trees have majestic roots and barks. And by this time my camera wasn't cooperating. All I get are blurred shots. (Mental note to myself: must ask co-workers to give me a copy). Am not a big Nature-brained (e.g. like I can't remember easily all the trees and plants appearances, names, scientific name et. al. but  give me time am willing to put it in mind). Kuya dudz tackled much of the plants and trees inside the rainforest. I was very interested with the grass root that could be used as soap.

We were so tired and hungry,  we changed clothes quickly and hopped on the taxi. We ate at a Steak house and the food is delectable. A first for me again to try a steak meal. Off we go to look for good deals on factory outlets. But I ended up buying chocolates. No souvenir stall carries a ref magnet. I was kinda disappointed but it's fine with me, maybe next time.

I have to commend again the TTA staff for having good command in using the camera (may it be a DSLR or a PAS digital cams).

The only negative I have to say is they just have to wash their helmets chin strap it smells awful. For real! Well aside from that they did a great job.

We capped of the day and watched the sunset from inside the bus...

Tree top Adventure

location: JEST area, Cubi point, SBMA. Olongapo City

This is has been delayed at some point. And we couldn't be happier and excited when it was pushed through FINALLY!

I was the eventologist for the said activity, am a little nervous because re-calls from work and weather unpredictability are my archnemesis. But we prevailed.

We met up at Monumento Terminal of Victory Liner. Fare costs 200 php one way.

The way to Olongapo is more like of Baguio except its nearer (3 hours with mild traffic in Pampanga). It has zigzag roads and green views. We just ate, slept and chatted most of the trip.

We arrived at Olongapo City. I was in awe. It's so clean! Way to go Mayor Gordon.

We rode the yellow jeep that passes in SBMA. We we'ren't allowed entry at the gates, guards told us entry is allowed only after 10 am. Mother Nature is on our side, it rained and we need shelter and they let us in. We road the taxi towards JEST area. Again cleanliness left me in awe.

We're here na. yey!

The Staff of TTA are very accomodating. Hurray. Great customer service I should say. We chose our package deal 9We chose package 550 php). Too bad the Zip line was closed for maintenance. The area is an untouched rainforest that was home of our aborigine forefathers during the early days. During the war period they helped the Americans on how to survive in the forest using only raw resources.

We started off with the Canopy ride.

Soldier's quarters. It's said to be cool inside even without an AC

It consists of Tree stations that gives you a hanging tour around the forest. The highest point is I think 100 feet. We were oriented of the trees name, plants and fruit. I can't remember it all. But I can say we have amazing soil for these kinds of trees. Most of them are over hundreds of years. By the way TTA is tree-friendly they don't use nails and screws to attach all the railings. Instead they use "treehuggers" that hugs around the tree. When it grows in size they just have to adjust some bolts, hinges and screw ( or whatever the hell they call it  in engineering).

Trinoma Mall, Q.C.

And we thought we're going to be frustrated na frogs all night long...

you can actually hear our screaming voices at 2:09 something of the vid.

We we're at the right of the stage from the 2nd level of Trinoma. And we're facing the walls. If it were'nt for "gitgit" (squeezing in through the crowd) power we couldn't have seen them. We're so happy to see them dance to the music of PYT, Lean wit it, Rock wit it, Single Ladies and Apologize. I'm mesmerized, actually. They all look good and taller in person.

I found out that they were coming through twitter. We defied our standards of attending a concert. We as social retards (who doesn't like to be in hot, crowded places and no skin contact with strangers) didn't mind all the hoola-baloos and went on for this once in a lifetime chance.

The crowd was crazy, we didn't expect a jam packed Trinoma when we arrived. Pinoy pride and love is all over the place. And I heard it was the same for the ATC and G5. There are some masuwerteng frogs who got in early for the passes and was lucky enough rub elbows with them.

The show was started by the very stationary and sexy DJ Rashida. The program was opened by Billy Crawford and company. I must say. His songs are already timeless and it still makes the people dance to it. I should say steer a little far from reviving. It could kill you.

All in all, it was a blast. And we still couldn't get over it. Happiness is plastered all-over our faces.

Funny moments: we made pun of the wrong pronunciation of Jabba courtesy of Mooningi and Ginger.

Corregidor Stones

And now after the food trip I post something gory-esque...sorry bout that ;)

=====

They say stones around the shores of Corregidor, Bataan has blood-like stains and it never fades if soaked in water.

I was a reliever for an area during their summer outing. Lo and behold! Look what I found substituting a mortar or pestle (in tagalog: pangdikdik)...

Its kinda creepy it really looks like blood.

C2 philippines

I got nostalgic when I ate at C2 the last time (We had our first date here at Robinson’s Midtown).
The food served here are modified Pinoy Recipes and I should say it tastes better. The ambience is very cozy perfect for mini-meetings, dates and get-together.

Razon's

The best Halo-Halo so far...

I thinks its secret recipe is within the ice and leche flan. Sometimes i just want to eat the leche flan and ice rather than the whole thing.

leche flan of C2 Philippines

Pair it up with silvanias.

silvanias

A terrific treat for the sweet tooth…AAAwwww am in sugar heaven.

=====

When I went to Pampanga for the first time, am surprised with the number of Razon’s stating that they’re the original or something. So who started it all if I may ask?

La Piadina

Italian passion food

Big "empanada"

'Empanaditas'

They serve Huge and ‘Little Empanadas’ with oxygen as 50% of its filling. But its OK. Spaghetti is Italiano so sweet/sour taste is expected very a-ok.

Shawarma Snack Center

If you’re looking for an authentic Shawarma dish, the place to be is Shawarma Snack Center.

It’s located at R. Salas Street, Ermita, Manila. There’s actually 2 centers facing each other, the ‘sosi’ side is a bit pricey than the ‘masa’ side (that’s where eat).

Their menu comprise mostly of Mid-east delicacies of shawarma, kebabs, ox’s brain and a whole more. What I like with the place is the unlimited mayo serving and tasty pita bread. The best of all they serve the best Shawarma. They are open 24/7 but they could get crowded by 8pm of ‘gimik’ nights and lunch time. To avoid waiting for a table come to the place earlier or later in the night.
